Once there was a boy named Ramesh who always blamed God for being born in a poor family. He always thought that had he been born in a rich family, he would have donated a considerable share of his wealth to the poor and the needy people.

One day while returning home from college, he spotted a box fallen on the ground. He picked it up and opened it only to find nothing inside it. He recollected that he had lost his pencil box recently and thus kept it inside his bag.

Next day while leaving for his college, he kept two pencils, an eraser, a sharpener and a scale inside his new box. While in his school, as soon as he opened the box, he couldn’t believe what he saw. The pencils, eraser, sharpener and scale had magically turned into gold.

Ramesh immediately closed the box and rubbed his eyes so as to wake himself up from this beautiful yet preposterous daydream. He slowly opened the box again only to find the golden stationary items inside it.

After returning home, he tried to repeat the procedure. This time he kept his metallic wrist watch inside the box and closed it. With lots of anticipation, he slowly and steadily opened the box only to find a golden wrist watch lying inside it. Ramesh couldn’t believe his luck and thanked God for hearing his plea.

He immediately went to the nearby jewellery shop and exchanged his gold ornaments for cash. While returning home, he spotted a burger shop and decided to buy the most expensive burger that he had always dreamt to eat. As soon as he came out of the shop, he saw various beggars sitting on the road side, who were waiting for anyone to drop a rupee or two.

Though Ramesh always wanted to uplift the status of the poor, but now after having loads of money, he decided to give it a second thought. He was no longer the same boy who felt pity for poor people and sympathetic towards their needs. Thus he dashed to his home without paying any heed to their calls.

He started to go to late night parties, ate food in expensive hotels, and purchased opulent clothes for himself. In short, he did everything that he denounced before he got the magical box.

One day he returned to his home late at night after partying in a pub. He kept a pen inside the magical box and slept. When he woke up in the morning, he couldn’t find the magical box upon the table so he searched for it and found it lying on the floor broken. The pen that he had kept inside the box didn’t turn into gold and poor Ramesh cried for the whole day. After gaining composure, he checked his savings only to find a hundred rupees note.
