Once upon a time, Prajapati Daksh conducted a yagya. He invited the Gods, demigods and saints from all across the globe except Lord Shiva.

Sati, the daughter of Prajapati Daksh and the wife of Lord Shiva went to attend the yagya but was shocked to see that no arrangements had been made for her husband. She couldn’t bear the disrespect and jumped into the Fire altar.

As soon as Lord Shiva came to know about the untimely death of his beloved wife, he pledged to put an end to Prajapati Daksh’s life. Thus he built a formidable bow in order to kill him. Later, he handed over the bow to the demigods who then gave it to the ancestors of Raja Janak.
